Mobile Crisis Response Staff
A Mobile Crisis Team is a team of professionals that provide on-site mental health crisis intervention to patients of all ages at patient’s homes, schools, local jails, hospitals and other locations within the community. The goal of Mobile Crisis is to assist clients in resolving their mental health crisis where they are to maintain functionality in the Community setting. Mobile Crisis is a 24/7/365 service.
I. PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Be available on all scheduled shifts.
• Dispatch to the scene within 60 minutes of dispatch.
• Work as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Help to identify the client’s areas of need, problems, and strengths and develop a plan of care with the patient to help resolve their mental health crisis.
• Assist clients with identifying resources and services available to them.
• Make referrals on behalf of the clients.
• Complete required paperwork with the clients.
• Document progress notes.
• Provide patient transportation if needed.
• Attend staff meetings, staffings, and trainings as requested by the Director of Crisis Services
• Completes other duties as assigned.
II. QUALIFICATIONS:
• One or more of the following is required:
1. A mental health professional as defined by Iowa Code Section 228.1
2. A bachelor’s degree with 30 semester hours or equivalent in a human services field (including, but not limited to, psychology, social work, nursing, education) and a minimum of one year of experience in a behavioral or mental health service.
3. A law enforcement officer with a minimum of two years of experience in the law enforcement officer’s field.
4. An emergency medical technician (EMT) with a minimum of two years of experience in the EMR’s field.
5. A peer support specialist with a minimum of one year of experience in behavioral or mental health services.
6. A family support peer specialist with a minimum of one year of experience in behavioral or mental health services.
7. A registered nurse with a minimum of one year of experience in behavioral or mental health services.
8. A bachelor’s degree in a non – human services related field, associate’s degree, or high school diploma (or equivalency) with a minimum of two years of experience in behavioral or mental health services, and 30 hours of crisis and mental health in service training (in additional to the Department approved training).
• Staff providing crisis response services must complete:
1. A minimum of 30 hours of Department – approved crisis intervention training completed within 90 days of hire. The first 10 hours completed within 30 days.
Must be able to pass an Iowa criminal background check.
• Must be able to pass Iowa DHS Adult & Child Abuse Registry verification.
• Must have a driver’s license and be insurable.
• Must adhere to Driver policy 24.3 (4) as part of ongoing job requirement.
III. REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION:
• Good verbal and written skills with ability to practice good communication with clients, staff, and other community providers.
• Reliable
• Good decision- making skills and ability for critical thinking.
• Strong passion for improving the mental health care delivery system.
• Familiarity and proficiency with electronic medical record, electronic mail, and word processing required. Strong computer skills required.
• Hearing and visual ability which allows for necessary understanding while rendering professional and supervisory services.
• Physical ability to stand, walk and move for up to 12 hours in a working shift.
