Doctors ‘Concerned’ About Health of Queen Elizabeth II
THURSDAY, Sept. 8, 2022 (HealthDay News) -- Buckingham Palace on Thursday announced that Britain's Queen Elizabeth II has been placed under medical supervision following "concern" from her doctors over her health.
The queen, 96, is still residing at Balmoral Castle, her estate in the Scottish Highlands, and has not been placed under hospital care, the palace said in a statement.
Still, on Tuesday the monarch appeared frail in a meeting with newly appointed Prime Minister Liz Truss, and on Wednesday she canceled a virtual meeting with her Privy Council, based on doctors' orders advising rest, the New York Times reported.
“Following further evaluation this morning, the queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended that she remain under medical supervision,” the palace said.
Prince Charles, heir to the throne, and Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, are traveling to Balmoral to be with the queen, the Washington Post reported.
“The whole country will be deeply concerned by the news from Buckingham Palace this lunchtime,” Truss said in a Tweet on Thursday. “My thoughts — and the thoughts of people across our United Kingdom — are with Her Majesty The Queen and her family at this time,” she said.
Moments after the palace statement was issued, the Speaker of the House of Commons said Britain’s Parliament sends the monarch its thoughts and prayers.
“I know I speak on behalf of the entire House when I say we send all the best wishes to her Majesty the Queen,” Lindsay Hoyle said, the Post reported.
Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby said the “prayers of people across the @churchofengland and the nation, are with Her Majesty The Queen today,” the Post reported.
